November 10, 2020 - Sagauro National Park West

There are two Sagauro National Parks, actually:  one on the west side of Tucson and one on the east side.  Today we checked out the west side.   We checked out the visitors center, which was closed, but did have a little hike.  Then we drove the Bajada Scenic Loop, an unpaved road through a forest of Sagauro cactuses.

The park is a hikers paradise but we did not have time to do one of the long ones.

Driving on Kinney Road at the southern portion of the Park.

A classic Sagauro Cactus.

Hiking the little trail at the Visitor's Center.

A Sagauro gone crazy.

Barrell Cactus?

At the top of the Bajada Scenic Loop, we went on another short hiking trail.

The Sagauros seem to like to grow on the mountain foothills.

An overlook at the end of the trail.  Looking west.  The boundaries of the National Park are very evident; where the park ends civilization begins.  It is good that they have preserved this open land from development.

Looking northeast at the way we had hiked.

Back at Maggie's house, Lynnette gets some Parker time.  Notice the big brown dog nestled right in there; that's Duke, the big friendly Doberman.
